Palmer Bunce
Nutrient Management Specialist
- Poultry Litter Transport Coordinator
Overview
I have a two-way contract with Virginia Tech & Virginia’s Department of Conservation & Recreation. As Nutrient Management Specialist- Poultry Litter Transport Coordinator, this position has a direct impact on increasing the health of the Chesapeake Bay. This program provides an incentive to move chicken litter out of poultry heavy counties that have soils high in phosphorus to counties out of the watershed with lower soil phosphorus levels. Not only does this position benefit the Chesapeake Bay, but also producers & farmers. With the ever changing prices of inorganic fertilizers, this program alleviates some of a farmers expenses while also benefitting soil health.
