On Thursday, Feb. 4, Hokies joined us to learn how Virginia Tech students are getting hands-on, real world experiences in our latest HokieTalk.

Experiential learning provides students the knowledge and skills they need for successful careers. Students work alongside faculty, fellow students, and community members on real-life research, design, and implementation experiences.

During this HokieTalk, we explored projects where students gained first-hand experience, including work on edible crops in Senegal, the Institute for Creativity, Arts and Technology's Steelcase ICU project,  and the design of the Virginia  Tech Creativity and Innovation District.

Event panelists were:

  • Ozzie Abaye, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences professor in the School of Plant and Environmental Sciences.
  • Aki Ishida, ICAT senior Fellow and director of the Intelligent Infrastructure for Human Centered Communities Destination Area and School of Architecture and Design associate professor.
  • Lisa Tucker, School of Architecture and Design interior design professor and program chair.
  • Rachel Holloway, vice provost for undergraduate academic affairs, will facilitate the discussion.

About HokieTalks

Hokies are interested to learn what’s new at Virginia Tech, especially how we are tackling the complex problems to help make communities stronger. HokieTalks are hour-long conversations that give Hokies an exciting insider look at current research that is making a difference. The talks are short and engaging, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions.
